FRENCH IN CONFUSION, THE. English, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. An English toast during the 18th century wars with France went "Confusion to the French." The melody appears in the obscure collection periodically issued poetry and other writings published in London by W. Owen called Miscellaneous Correspondence, containing a variety of Subjects (p. 394, 1756). It was also entered into the c. 1800 music manuscript collection of woodwind player Silas Dickenson of Ameherst, Massachusetts, and the 1798 T.J. Dixon manuscript of Lincolnshire.
