GENERAL STEWART, WEST PARK--ELGIN. Scottish, March (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). Moyra Cowie, in her book The Life and Times of William Marshall (1999), identifies the General as Major General Francis Stewart (d. 1824) who owned the estate of Panns, on the banks of the River Lossie. Upon his death it was inherited by Captain James Steward, his nephew.
