GIGA. AKA and see "Lord Elcho's Favourite." Scottish, Slow Jig. G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This generically named tune ('giga'=jig) was composed by James Oswald, but also published by Nathaniel Gow who gave no composer credit. When it was suggested (by poet Robert Burns, for one) that Nathaniel's 'borrowing' was improper, he defended himself by claiming he had adapted an untitled tune by Oswald, as others had adapted older airs. Oswald's tune tune was a quick jig, and Gow published it as a slow tune, making some very minor changes in the melody. Since it was untitled by Oswald, Gow took the liberty of attaching a name to his version.
