GIRL SLIPPED DOWN, THE. Old-Time, Breakdown. G Major. Recorded in 1924 by Alabama fiddler D. Dix Hollis MD (1861-1927) for the Silvertone label (Sears). Hollis was the son of a Sulligent, west Alabama, family who had extensive holdings as planters, and who once owned a large number of slaves. He was taught to fiddle by a family servant, but supplemented his early tutilage with several months of classical violin lessons while in medical training in Baltimore in 1884. In 1924 Hollis traveled to New York to cut a dozen sides for Paramount records.
