GLEBE, THE. Canadian, Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Cape Breton fiddler and composer Dan R. MacDonald (1911-1976). A 'glebe' was a piece of property assigned by the community for the support of the local cleric [1]. Joseph Clifford McGann ("Dan R. MacDonald: Individual Creativity in the Cape Breton Tradition", MA thesis, 2003), the tune was "likely written for Father John Angus Rankin, Glendale Parish Priest. The Glebe House was the residence of the parish priest in Glendale."
