GREEN BUSHES [1], THE (Na Tomanaide Glais). Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). A Major (O'Neill): F Major (Stanford/Petrie): A Minor (Stanford/Petrie): A Dorian (Stanford/Petrie). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill): AABB (Stanford/Petrie). There are two main melodies going by this title, which Cazden lables the "English" and "Irish" airs (though they are to some extent both found in each tradition). One, the Irish, is a member of a large tune family often used for ballads, hymns and airs, including "Rye Whiskey," "Old Head of Denis (The)," "Rock Island Line," and many others. Petrie notes: "See 'The Capa danig.'"

Source for notated version: "From P. Carew's MS," "From Mr. Fitzgerald," "Co. Of Cork, from P. MacDowell, Esq." [Stanford/Petrie].
