HALF MOON, THE. English, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773). Dance instructions for a "Half Moon" appear in the American publications A Select Collection of the Newest and Most Favorite Country Dances (Ostego, N.Y., 1808) and A Treatise on Dancing (Boston, 1807), and may be the same dance printed by the Thompsons.
