HENRY MACDERMOTT ROE [1]. AKA - "Sir Henry MacDermott Roe." Irish, Planxty (6/8 or 6/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Complete Collection): AABB (Joyce). Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). The subject of the tune, notes Donal O'Sullivan (1958) was neither knight nor baronet, and thus does not merit the title 'Sir'. The MacDermott Roe family of Alderford were among O'Carolans chief patrons, and oldest friends; Henry was either the scion of the family, or his eldest son.
