IT IS NOT DAY, NO, NOR MORNING. AKA and see "Mad Buckgoat" ("Poc Buille" or "Poc ar buile (An)"). Irish, Air (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Poc ar buile (An)" is one of the most readily recognized songs in Irish tradition today, says Paul de Grae, if only because the chorus is popularly reworded as "I'll fuckin' kill ye...". Joyce calls this a drinking song, and obtained it from the John Pigot Collection. "This is a better setting than the one I have given in Ancient Irish Music, p. 57" (Joyce). The song "Poc ar bulle" tells of a mischievous goat gone amok. The words begin:

Ar mo ghabáil dom siar chun Droichead Uí Mhórdha,
Píce i m' dhóid is mé ag dul i meitheal,
Cé chasfaí orm i gcumar ceoidh
Ach pocán crón is é ar buile,
Alliliú puilliliu, alliliú tá an poc ar buile.

Do ritheamar trasna trí ruilleogach
Is do ghluais an comhrac ar fud na muinge,
Is treascairt dá bhfuair sé sna turtóga
Chuas ina ainneoin ar a dhroim le fuinneamh
Alliliú puilliliu, alliliú tá an poc ar buile.
