JABE MEADOW. American, Hornpipe. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This American hornpipe has been popular with Cape Breton fiddlers--Paul Stewart Cranford (2000) notes that it was a favorite of influential fiddler Angus Chisholm. There is a location called Jabe Meadon in Charleston, New Hampshire (along with a Jabe Meadow Road and Jabe Meadow Brook), but whether the title is associated with it is unknown. Conceivably it was withing the collecting radius of Boston music publisher Elias Howe (Ryan's Mammoth Collection). Fiddler Séamus Connolly remarks on his site The Séamus Connolly Collection of Irish Music [1]: "Somehow, the tune found its way to Ireland and into the hands of Seán McLaughlin, a fiddle player from County Antrim. Seán won the Senior All-Ireland fiddle championship in 1958 in Longford. He played many fine tunes when he broadcast on radio and television, including this hornpipe."
