JACK THOMPSON'S FANCY. English, Schottische. The tune was reconstructed by Northumbrian fiddler Jack Thompson after World War II. He was playing at a dance in Eglingham, according to Reg Hall (1998), when an elderly man requested the tune that used to be played for the dance The Ideal Schottische. Thompson barely remembered it, but the Cheviot Ramblers were able to fashion on the spot a version of the requested melody, which now bears the fiddler's name.
