MR. GARDEN JUNIOR (OF TROUP’S) STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. One of several melodies composed by Kirkmichael, Perthshire, fiddler Robert Petrie in honor of the Garden family, lairds of the estate of Troup. It was included in his 2nd Collection of Strathspey Reels and Country Dances (1796, p. 4), a volume dedicated to his patron and employer, Mrs. Garden of Troup. Mr. Garden Junr. was her son, whose father was Francis Garden-Campbell, 6th of Troup and Glenlyon--the given name ran strong in the family; there were four 'Francis Garden-Campbells of Troup' in succession.
