GALLAGHER'S [1]. AKA and see "Brístín Mire (An)," "Cunla," "Friar's Breeches," "Friar's Britches," "Frieze Breeches (1)/Frieze Britches (1)," "I Buried My Wife and Danced on Her Grave," "On St. Patrick's Day I was Gay," "Soup of Good Drink (The)," "Trumlo (The)." Irish, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BBCC'DD'E. Sliabh Luachra accordion player Johnny O'Leary maintained fiddler Pádraig O'Keeffe knew this tune as "Gallagher's" and that it was "the Galway crowd" that called it "Frieze Breeches." Uilleann piper O'Farrell printed a version in London as "Soup of Good Drink (The)" in the early years of the 19th century. Nevertheless, this particular tune is almost universally known in sessions as "Frieze Breeches", while the "Gallagher's" title is usually applied to the melodically similar tune "Gallagher's Frolic (3)". See also "Gallagher's Frolic (1)" and "Gallagher's Frolic (2)" for variants that appear to be transitional.
