EAST BOLDON JIG. English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. An untitled tune from the mid-19th century William Hall Lister (East Boldon, near Newcastle) manuscript (No. 28). East Boldon (from the Anglo-Saxon bol, meaning hill, and Don, the name of the nearby river) is a village in Northumberland that was, until the 1980's the site of a colliery. Barry Callaghan (2007) credits the band Red Shift with popularizing the melody in modern times.
