FAIR JENNY('S JIG). American, Jig (6/8 time). USA, New England. D Major ('A' part) & D Major/Mixolydian ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Fair Jenny('s Jig)" was composed by New England country dance pianist Peter Barnes (of the band Yankee Ingenuity) in 1976, inspired by the folktale (or Child Ballad) of Fair Jenny, who clung to a faerie queen as she shifted shapes until finally she won her husband's freedom. Nick Barber (2002) erroneously identifies it as a Shetland tune.
