The tune is in the repertoire of Texas-style fiddler Gary Lee Moore (now resident of Seattle), who had it from Texas fiddler Dale Morris. Morris's title was "Get Out of the Way of the Heelfly." The heel fly is also known as the common cattle grub, and, more colloquially, warble fly, bomb fly and gad fly. It is a parasitic insect preying on cattle, whose larvae burrow under the skin of the animal and thence to the organs where they mature for nearly a year until they emerge from the host's back. Their predations cause cattle to run wildly with their tails in the air, an activity known as 'gadding'.
