HEMP DRESSERS [2], THE. Scottish, English; Country Dance (6/8). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A development of the country dance jig "Hemp Dressers (1) (The)" found in the Playford publications. The melody also appears in the music manuscript collection of John Fife, a fiddler from Perthshire (but also perhaps from sea), and in flute player Thomas Molyneaux's copybook, 1788 (Nova Scotia). The tune was entered into the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook (Waverton, Cumbria) as "Looking Glass (3) (The)," in a section of song airs.
