HONORABLE GEORGE CARNEGIE, THE. AKA - "The Honorable George Carnegie's Strathspey." Scottish, Strathspey. G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The melody was composed by Edinburgh musician Daniel McLaren and appear in his Collection of Strathspey Reels, etc. (1794). The Honorable George Carnegie (1773-1839) was a younger son of Admiral George Carnegie, 6th Earl of Northesk (1716-1792) and his wife Anne Melville. As a younger son, not likely to inherit, he joined the military and was appointed a Captain in the 79th Regiment of Foot (Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders) in August, 1793, when the unit was raised, and was a Major a year later. He and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by 1800 before going on half-pay by 1820.
