HORNSBY'S MARCH. AKA and see "Bologna’s March," "Favorite Slow March (A)," "Staffordshire Militia March." English, March (4/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Gibbon's originally set the tune in the key of 'C' major. The melody appears in the music manuscript collections of John Rook (1840, Waverton, Cumbria) as "Favorite Slow March (A)," and James Winder (1835-41, Wyresdale, Lancashire) as "Staffordshire Militia March." However, the tune was published in the late 18th century by James Aird and John Watlen in their respective collections as "Bologna's March," a title associated with the Edinburgh circus.
