JACKSON'S BOTTLE OF PUNCH [2]. AKA and see "Bottle of Punch (The)." Irish, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. A variant of "Jackson's Bottle of Punch (1)" with an extra part. The Gows printed the tune in Edinburgh in the last decade of the 18th century as "Bottle of Punch (The)," omitting the name 'Jackson'. It was entered into the 1817 music manuscript collection of Patrick McGahan (County Louth) with 'Jackson's' in the title, but omitted by Dublin collector Henry Hudson, who also called it "Bottle of Punch"; so the attributional name 'Jackson' floats in and out of the title. The jig can be found in Church of Ireland cleric James Goodman's mid-19th century music manuscripts (vol. 1, p. 20). James Goodman (1828-1896) was an uilleann piper, and an Irish speaker who collected locally in County Cork and elsewhere in Munster. He also obtained tunes from manuscripts and printed collections.
