JAMES THE SECOND'S MARCH. AKA and see "Garter (The)", "King James March". English, Air (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune appears in the second supplement to the 7th edition of John Playford's Dancing Master of 1688 (appears as "The Garter") and in later editions (as "King James's March, or the Garter"). It was retained in the long-running series through the 18th edition of 1728 as "The Garter" and, latterly, as "King James March or the Garter". It was also published in London publisher John Walsh's Country Dancing Master, editions of 1718 and 1731. See also "annotation:Garter (The)" for more.
