MR. JAMES WATTIE. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Walker (b. 1819) for Mr. James Wattie of Bellabeg, a village opposite River Don from the village of Strathdon, Aberdeenshire. The name Bellabeg is from the Scottish Gaelic Am Baile Beag, or 'a small farmtown'. Highland games are held in the green in the village. Bellabeg House was a country estate of the Forbes family, owned in the mid-19th century by Sir Charles Forbes of Newe, Alexander Walker's employer. It is probably the Mr. Wattie of the title had a connection with the estate. One member of the Wattie family was a merchant in Bellabeg, while another Wattie was an agent for the Aberdeen Town and County Bank. See also "annotation:Mr. Alexander Wattie" for more on the Wattie family.
