Composed by English-born biography:James Buckley (1803-1882), whose family minstrel troupe (which included his sons G. Swayne, Frederick and Bishop), Buckley's Serenaders, was one of the premiere blackface minstrel organizations of the mid- to latter 19th century in the United States. 539 Broadway, was the New York City address of their theater, leased in 1853, whichthey called successively Buckley's Opera House, the Ethiopian Opera House and the American Opera House.
