GARDEN SHIEL. AKA and see "Miss Downie's Strathspey," "Honest Duncan." Scottish. The tune was claimed by Duncan MacIntryre (as "Miss Downie's Strathspey"), in his 1795 publication. It is sometimes attributed to Robert Petrie who printed it several years later as "Garden Shiel" in his Third Collection (1802), although Petrie himself did not claim it in his work. It was published without author credit by Gow as "Honest Duncan" in Repository, Part Second, 1802.
