HAY TRIX TRIM GO TRIX. Scottish, Dance Tune and Air. The song appears in the early (16th century) publication Gude and Godlie Balletes. Emmerson (1971) believes this early dance tune to have more of the character of a ring-dance refrain, as in 'Hay, trix trim to trix under the greenwood tree', and suggests this is the meaning of the word 'Trixie' in Sempill's elegy on the piper Habbie Simpson:

Kilbarchan now may say alas!
For she hath lost her game and grace,
Both Trixie and the Maiden-Trace.
