PERRO. AKA - "Pearo." English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune was published in London by John Walsh in his Compleat Country Dancing Master, vol. 3 (1731, p. 7), and by John Johnson in Wright's Compleat Collection of celebrated country Dances (1740, p. 13). Johnson's volume was originally published by an earlier London music seller and publisher, biography:Daniel Wright. The title is thought to be a variant spelling of Pierrot [1], the stock character of the Commedia dell'Arte, a clown who pines for his love Columbine, who rejects him in favor of Harlequin.

Antoine Watteau: Gilles (or Pierrot) and Four Other Characters of the Commedia dell'arte, c. 1718.
