SET CANADIEN 1ERE PARTIE.  AKA - "Fairy Dance," "Largo's Fairy Dance."  French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'.  Ethnomusicologist Jean Duval finds that the melodies for Montreal fiddler Joseph Alex Donato's (1885-1948) three-part "Set canadien" series were taken from Harding’s Collection of Jigs, Reels and Country Dances, first published in New York in 1891 and republished several times thereafter. "Set canadien 1ere partie" is a faithful rendering of "Largo's Fairy Dance" published in Scotland by the Gows and generally credited to Edinburgh bandleader, music publisher, teacher, composer and fiddler Nathaniel Gow.
