SHADY TREE. "Shady Tree" was recorded by Fiddlin' Powers & Family for OKeh Records in 1927 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in September, 1927, but was unissued by the record company. The family band, from Russell County, southwest Virginia, consisted of John Cowan Powers (1879-1953) on fiddle, John L. "Steamboat" Porter (harmonica), Orpha Powers (mandolin), Charlie Powers (banjo), Carrie Powers (guitar) and Ada Powers (ukulele).
