Biographical notes

Little is known about Scottish dancing master and musician Duncan Macintyre (c.1767-c. 1807). He may have originally been from Perthshire, but he established a practice as a teacher of music and dance in Edinburgh in the latter 18th century. In the early 1790's he moved to London where he advertised himself as a "Teacher of Scottish Dancing," and published his Collection of Slow Airs, Reels and Strathspeys in 1794. In the early 1800's he may have accepted a position that took him to India, but he drops from sight soon afterwards.
