The jig is a variant of the "Gold Ring (1) (The)" family of tunes. It was printed as "Huggerth the Puss" by Scottish publisher James S. Kerr in the 1880's, notes Conor Ward, who finds it also cognate with "Pharroh or War March (The)"/"Watch! Watch! Forward! Forward!."
