McFADDEN'S (REEL) [2] (Ríl Mhic Pháidín). AKA and see "Chase Her through the Garden," "Glass of Beer (The)," "Johnny Maguire's Reel," "Listowel Lasses (The)," "Pick Your Partner." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The reel, usually known as "Glass of Beer (The)" nowadays, was recorded on fiddler Paddy Glackin's first album in a set of reels he called "McFadden's Reels", for which he said his source was Donegal fiddler John Doherty. Although Chicago fiddler John McFadden is not credited with the composition "Glass of Beer," he was credited by Francis O'Neill with the very similar cognate reel "Pick Your Partner." Compare also with James S. Kerr's "Piper's Glass (The)."
