The melody and country dance directions were printed by London publisher John Young in all four editions of his Second Volume of the Dancing Master (1710-1728). It also appeared in Walsh & Randall's The New Country Dancing Master...Second Book (1710) and Walsh and Hare's The Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (1719). The title may refer to the Acts of Union  of 1706 and 1707 by the English and Scottish Parliaments that united England and Scotland into Great Britain (see also Young's "Scotch Union").
