WEDDING POLKA [1], THE. English, Polka (2/4 time). England, Dorset. D Major ('A' part) & A Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Wedding Polka [1]" is one of a number of melodies that carry this title from the mid-19th century onwards. However, it is not unique to the music manuscript collection of the mid-19th century Hardy family of Dorset, southwest England (whose most famous member was novelist Thomas Hardy). A rather elaborate version with a Trio, perhaps copied directly from sheet music, was entered into the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of piper and fiddler Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894) of Newpark, Bohey, Gortletteragh, south Co. Leitrim. (Grier, Book 1, No. 8).
