BABES IN THE WOODS SCHOTTISCHE [4]. American, Schottische. D Major. Standard tuning. AB. Source for notated version: George Strosnider (1930's), an elderly fiddler (he was aged 69 in 1928) who lived near Waynesburg, Greene County, Pa.. A version of this tune, with the same name, was sung in southwestern Pennsylvannia, beginning:
My dears, do you know, a long time ago,
Two little children whose names I don't know
Went out for to play one fine summer's day,
And were lost in the woods, so I've heard people say. (Bayard)
