CAMP MEETING (HORNPIPE) [3]. American, Hornpipe. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composition credited to Harry Carleton in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). Carleton remains elusive, and nothing is known about him. Elias Howe, William Bradbury Ryan's publisher, obtained many tunes in his collections from journeyman composers of light or popular music, who were located in the Boston-New York circuit. It is even possible 'Harry Carleton' was a pseudonym.
