CAPTAIN MAGAN (Captain Mac Cean). Irish, Air or Planxty (6/8 time). G Minor/Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB: AA'B (Holden). Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). O'Sullivan believes 'Captain Magan' is the same person as Morgan Magan (d. 1738) of Togherstown, County Westmeath, the subject of a popular O'Carolan air called "Morgan Megan/Magan." The versions printed by the Neale's, Mulholland and Holden are similar, remarks O'Sullivan, "but differ in their distribution of accidtnals; also they all have a key-signature of one flat instead of two."
