CHAMBERLAIN, THE. AKA and see "Gordon's Reel," "March (47)," "Reel à Rémi," "Reel de l'hôtelier," "Set américain 2ème partie (Soucy), "Sets canadiens (1)." Canadian, Reel. D Major. Standard or ADae tunings (fiddle). AABB (Messer): AA'BB' (Hart & Sandell). A popular Quebec reel with several titles. In the 78 RPM era the influential Quèbec fiddler Joseph Allard (1873-1947) recorded it as "Reel de l'hôtelier," while Isidore Soucy recorded it in 1925 as "Set américain 2ème partie (Soucy)" and again in 1930 as "Quadrille des Laurentides 5ème partie." Louis Beaudion (1921-1980, Burlington, Vt.) called this tune by the generic title "Galope." Métis fiddler Grandy Fagnan (c. 1902-1986) had the reel in his repertory as an untitled tune (for which see "March (47)."

See also the first strain of Arthur Scott Robertson's "Laxo Burn."
