EDINGLASSIE'S RANT. Scottish, Rant or Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in the Drummond Castle Manuscript Part 2 (in the possession of the Earl of Ancaster, Drummond Castle), inscribed "A Collection of the best Highland Reels written by David Yound, W.M. & Accomptant" (1734). Anne Gilchrist ["Old Fiddlers' Tune Books of the Georgian Period", JEFDSS, vol. 4, No. 1, Dec. 1940, p. 18] noted that, in her experience, the Rant was a name rather loosely applied of various lively dance-tunes, but properly seemed to her to have belonged to a quick 2/4 time melody.
Edinglassie is a country house and estate in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, built in the early 18th century. It was once held by the Forbes family.
