FAREWELL, DEAR LOVE. English, Air. D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The song is to be found in Robert Jones' First Book of Songs and Ayres (1600). The song, somewhat garbled, appears in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (act ii, scene 3) after Sir Toby has quoted from several songs; Malvolio enters and puts an end to the revel, but his last word, "farewell," prompts Sir Toby on one more song, "Farewell, Dear Love."
