Commonly identified as a version of "Billy in the Lowground" from the repertoire of Glen Lyn, Virginia, fiddler Henry Reed. However, if a version of "Billy", then it is quite distanced, with the similarities being the relatively rare key of 'C' and the motion up the 'C' chord starting at the low tonic in the beginning measures.
