FIRST OF SEPTEMBER, THE. American, Reel or March. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. In England and Scotland the first of September is celebrated as the opening day of partridge season, although this is not perhaps what is honored by the title. The "First of September" appears in Joshua Cushing's Fifer's Companion (p. 69), published in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1805.
