FIVE DOLLAR JOB SCHOTTISCHE. American, Schottische. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCDD. Howe credits "J. Norton" with the composition, referring probably to Jimmy Norton, "The Boss Jig Player," who is credited as the source for a number of tunes in the Howe collections. Norton was probably a band-leader or principal instrumentalist in the eastern Massachusetts area in the mid-19th century. Five dollars was quite a sum of money in those days.
