FLUTER'S BALL, THE. AKA and see "Phil the Fluter's Ball," "Phil the Fluther's Ball." American (originally Irish), March (4/4 time). USA, southwestern Pa. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The words and music were written by writer Percy French (1854-1920), and soon entered folk tradition, including the fifing tradition as fifers quickly realized its potential as a march (Bayard, 1981).
