GLADSTONE'S REEL. AKA - "A.A. Gladstone -- Edinburgh," "Gladstone (The)." Scottish, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Skinner): AABAAC (Hunter, Martin & Hughes). Composed by the self-styled 'Strathspey King', J. Scott Skinner (1846–1927). Played as part of the romantically entitled set "Warblings From the Hill's" during Skinner's 1921 concert tours. The composer penned the reel [1] in 1909, entitling it simply "Gladstane" [sic], in honor of a gentleman from Edinburgh who was a Scottish music enthusiast. It was published in a small folio called Monikie Series No. 2, which included only the tunes "Glengrant" and "The Gladstone Reel" (the series was named for Monikie, where Skinner resided until 1909).
