GRANDPA'S WALTZ [3]. American, Waltz. USA, New England. The tune was composed in 1974 by Vermont fiddler Leon "Fritz" Carl, the 'Fiddling Farmer', born 1913. Carl was a classical-style violinist in his youth, and acquired old-time fiddling in the depression, playing as a solo, vaudeville-style act at various venues across the northern part of the state. At one point he had perfected playing by holding the bow with his big toe!
