Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AA'B (O'Neill/1915 & Krassen). The melody belongs to the "College Grove/College Groves" family of tunes. Breathnach prints a version as "Cavan Reel (The)." The first strain of "Green Jacket" is very close to that of "College Grove (The)", as played by accordion player Peter Conlon.
Francis O'Neill, in Irish Folk Music: A Fascinating Hobby (1910, pp. 110-111), finds the tune family derived from "Miss Corbett's Reel" printed in James Aird's late 18th century Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs. O'Neill also remarked: "In corroboration of that view, Sergeant Early informs me that piper Quinn always referred to the tune as 'Miss Corbett's Reel'"[1].
