IF I HADN'T BEEN A FOOL, I MIGHT HAVE BEEN A LADY. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Missouri. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The similarly-titled "She Oughta Been a Lady" is a different tune.

Source for notated version: Bill Katon (Tebbetts, Missouri, 1864-1934) [Christeson]. The last name is sometimes given as "Caton," although Christeson notes his gravestone marker is spelled with a 'K'. Katon lived in a small house between the town of Tebbetts and the Missouri River. His fiddling was broadcast of WOS in the early days of radio.

Printed sources: R.P. Christeson (Old Time Fiddlers Repertory, vol. 2), 1984; p. 14.
