MR. WHITE’S (OF DOUGLAS) STRATHSPEY. English, Strathspey, England, Northumberland. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’B. Composed by Robert Whinham (1814-1893), a musician, teacher, composer, dancing master and fiddler, originally from Morpeth. The tune was included in Thomas Thompson’s A Complete Repository of Strathspey’s (Alnwick, Northumberland, 1854). Graham Dixon (1995) notes the rare Thompson printing was the earliest known published version of one of Whinham’s pieces.
