MRS. FRASER'S REEL--CULLEN. AKA - "Mrs. Fraser, Cullen." Scottish, Reel. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Athole, Cranford, Marshall, Skye): AA'B (Honeyman). Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). A Scottish fiddler and composer, Marshall is most famous for his many fine strathspeys. Marshall worked for much of his life for the Duke of Gordon as the Steward of his Household, while the Duke in turn was an enthusiastic supporter of Marshall’s music. Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999) identifies Mrs. Fraser as Catherine Duncan, wife of John Fraser, the Earl of Seafield’s commissioner.
