BONNY PRINCE CHARLIE [1]. Scottish, Air or Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was written by Neil Gow Jr. (c. 1795-1823) son of Nathaniel and grandson of the famous fiddler Niel Gow (who spelled his first name differently). An amateur musician who entered the medical profession, this Gow died at the early age of 28. The Ettrick Shepherd, poet James Hogg, set the "Bonnie Prince Charlie" lyric to the tune, a version of Gow's jig originally entitled "Lady Ann Carnegie's Favorite."
